Car Show Prep in Winnipeg: Getting a Build Ready for World of Wheels, SpeedFest and SEMA

By the Garage 46 team · · 5 min read

The short answer

Show prep starts with a mechanical inspection, because judges and spectators crawl underneath. Then fitment and alignment are checked at show height, the engine bay and underbody are detailed, every part is documented for the display card, and transport is arranged so the car arrives clean. Start at least a month out; the week before a show is for polishing, not fixing.

Manitoba’s show calendar

World of Wheels Winnipeg in spring is the ISCA-judged indoor show where the Supra took a class win in 2017. Summer brings Winnipeg SpeedFest, the cruise nights, and the club shows around the city and out to Selkirk and Steinbach. November is SEMA. The prep is the same; only the stakes change.

Four weeks out: mechanical

  • Full inspection on the hoist: leaks, worn bushings, loose hardware, anything a judge with a flashlight would find.
  • Fluids, battery and tire pressures, including the car’s ability to start reliably after sitting in a hall for three days.
  • Fitment check at show height: nothing touching, gaps even, hardware uniform.
  • Alignment if the car has been lowered or had suspension work since the last one.

Two weeks out: detail and documentation

Engine bay, wheel wells and underbody get cleaned and dressed; a widebody car is judged from the ground up. Write the build sheet with every brand named correctly, because at a sponsored show the brands check, and at a local show it is what people photograph. The Z’s full sheet is on its build page as an example.

The last week: transport and arrival

Decide early whether the car drives or trailers. A low car on Manitoba roads in spring arrives dirty and sometimes damaged; a covered trailer solves both. For Las Vegas the car goes by enclosed transport and is detailed again on arrival. Pack a kit: microfibres, quick detailer, a battery tender, spare hardware and the tools to adjust anything that moved in transit.

What we do for customers

Pre-show inspection and fitment checks, alignment, mechanical fixes, and the honest conversation about what a judge will notice. Book it a month out, not the week before.
